Prep Tourney Action Rolls On
There was plenty of high school tournament action Wednesday night once the skies cleared.
Northridge and Concord each picked up sectional semifinal wins in softball action at the Class 4-A Elkhart Memorial Sectional.
The Raiders beat Goshen 11-1 and Concord stopped host Memorial 11-4. Northridge pitcher Sami Deisler had eight strikeouts in the Raider win. Allyson Williams had a two-run homer and RaeAnn Miller a two-run triple to lead Concord.
Northridge (17-9) meets Concord on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the sectional final at Memorial.
The NorthWood baseball team topped Fairfield 5-3 in a first-round game of the Class 3-A NorthWood Sectional.
Vinny Miranda had a big all-around night for the defending champion Panthers. Miranda had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs. He was also the winning pitcher in the contest.
NorthWood will play Tippecanoe Valley in a semifinal game Saturday at 11 a.m. in Nappanee. Wawasee meets Whitko tonight at 5 p.m. with West Noble playing Lakeland Friday at 5. The winner of tonight’s game will face the winner of Friday night’s contest in the second semifinal on Saturday.
The sectional championship game at NorthWood is set for Monday at 5 p.m.
The Fairfield tennis team edged past Elkhart Memorial 3-2 in a semifinal match of the Northridge Regional.
The Falcons’ clinching point came at No. 2 doubles as sisters Hannah and Kirsten Toole won 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. Fairfield also got wins from the Mast sisters, All-Stater Emily and freshman Morgan, at No. 1 and 2 singles respectively.
Fairfield (16-1) will face NECC foe Angola tonight in the regional final at Northridge. Angola (15-1) beat East Noble 3-2 in the other semifinal match Wednesday. Fairfield beat Angola 4-1 during the regular season.
Memorial, which won regional and semistate titles a year ago, finishes its season at 12-4.
