TVMS Academic Team Places Top Ten In State
The TVMS Academic Team finished a highly successful season, placing in the top 10 of the entire state for class 2.
The Indiana Junior Academic Super Bowl Class is a competition covering five areas—math, English, social studies, science plus an interdisciplinary round.
Both the social studies and interdisciplinary teams finished in the top 10 at the invitational meet at Indian Springs Middle School, Columbia City, on May 2, leading the overall team to a top 10 placement at the state level for class 2.
This year’s topic was “The Grandeur That Was Rome.” Team members prepared by reading several hundred pages about Roman life and supplemental studies.
The math squad, coached by Amy Forbes, included Dylan Wood (captain), Dakota Prater, Mitch Smith and Billy Gillman.
Students on the English squad, coached by Lynette Shoemaker, were Quintin Allen (captain), Tristen Grubbs, Miranda Dotson and Cayla Huffman.
The social studies squad, coached by Susanne Siebrase, included Billy Gillman (captain), Eli Holder, Brant Norris, Misael Ramirez and George Gillman.
Students on the science team, coached by Michelle DeBaets, were Justin Peconga (captain), Austin Crill and Tristen Grubbs. The interdisciplinary team included Tristen Grubbs (captain), Billy Gillman, Quintin Allen and Justin Peconga.
