Fat & Skinny Tire Festival Rides Out Of Town
The 12th annual Fat & Skinny Tire Festival concluded today after celebrating a three-day festival of bikes.
The event, which was held in both Warsaw and Winona Lake, kicked off on Friday evening with the community bike ride from Winona Lake to downtown Warsaw, where a celebration took place.
Though many showed up from near and far, due to weather the event was a little quieter on Saturday than in prior years. Dino series mountain bike racing on the Winona Lake Trails, a 19, 39 or 65 mile casual road ride throughout the rolling farmland of southeast Kosciusko County, as well as several kid activities and safety clinics set up shop at the Village of Winona on Saturday. BMX stunt shows were also held to entertain visitors as they stopped to get ice cream, cotton candy and more.
Saturday evening, performances from bands offered great entertainment for visitors while they enjoyed beverages in the Cerulean tent area. Food was offered from local food carts. The entertainment tent was packed full throughout the evening.
Sunday offered visitors an opportunity to cheer on their favorite cyclist during a high-level competitive bike race on the favorite half-mile Island course. Races included a kids’ race as well as the celebrity beach cruiser corporate race — the Orthopedic Cup. A beer garden was hosted by Mad Anthony’s on Sunday allowing spectators a cool refreshment while taking in the races.
KCV offered additional prize winnings for the road racers by adding a multi-race competition called the Omnium. Racers scored points for their finishes in all three of the road racing events throughout the weekend. The racers with the most points were declared the winners of the overall Omnium competition.
