Street Lights Coming To Eisenhower Subdivision
A request by residents in the Eisenhower Subdivision, approximately one year ago for street lights, is moving forward. At Friday morning’s Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety meeting approval was given to hire Scheele Engineering, Fort Wayne, for design services
Jeremy Skinner, city planner, presented the request for the company to design the street lighting. The lighting will be decorative poles, mast arms and LED luminaries. Skinner noted he had originally considered solar lighting, but the maintenance cost would not be in the city’s best interest. The cost for design services will be $1,515.
The board also approved the daytime closing of the alley on the west side of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, between Market and Jefferson streets, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 15-19.
The request by WEPC is to allow the hosting of Springhill Day Camp. According to Dewayne Busz last year’s event saw 130 kids in the age group of kindergarten through fifth grade enjoying a week of games and structured events.
The right of way work on Husky Trail will be proceeding following the board’s signing of a “Notice To Proceed” document, requested by the Indiana Department of Transportation. Skinner stated A & Z Engineering will handle all right-of-way services for the project. “Most property owners have given good responses,” said Skinner adding there are a handful that will be more complicated.
During other business the board:
- Signed an agreement with CivicHR for a human resources solutions system, at a cost of $9,516. This will add a layer to the city’s website for human resource functions, streamlining the application process, on-boarding/off-boarding, training and OSHA safety training through orientation. Department heads would also have acces to electronic reviewing of applications for hiring purposes.
- Signed an agreement authorizing the board of works as the construction agent for the Buffalo Street Project.
- Approved contracts with Karen Smith for Yoga in the Park Classes, a cost of $300; and Brett Leach for concert stagehand work on June 26 and July 24, for a total of $240.
- Adopted updated construction standards for streets, sidewalks, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and pipe trenching. James Emans, city engineer, stated the standards have not been updated since March 2008. While there are some changes, such as adding an area at the end of a cul de sac as a clear zone for snow removal, most of the standards were updated to current statute and regulations.
- Signed a grant agreement with K21 for the $375,000 Market Street Trail grant. The grant has been approved and awarded last year. The town has finished raising the $125,000 with support from donors such as Orthoworx, Bowen Center, KCV Cycling Club, Tri Kappa, Dane and Mary Louise Miller Foundation and the public.
- Granted permission for the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory to apply for a Kosciusko REMC Operation Round Up Grant for its annual Family Safety Day, scheduled for Sept. 12 at Central Park and Center Lake Pavilion.
- Approved a semi-annual maintenance agreement with Cummins Crosspoint, Indianapolis ,for generators at station one and two. The agreement is for $1,076.14.
The next meeting of the board will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5.
