Warsaw, Wayne Township Carries WCSC Referendum
There was no question when election results began being released, the Warsaw Community School Corp., referendum would pass. In the end 62.31 percent of the 4,841 (27,852 were eligible to vote) votes cast were in favor. Even the absentee ballots cast favored the referendum.
“We would like to thank our community and the large number of volunteers for the support of our schools and students. As Warsaw Community Schools, we are grateful for the opportunity to address safety, security and educational needs at Lincoln, Washington, and Edgewood through this referendum. Our community is very proud of our local schools, and today’s outcome provides all students a safe and equitable learning environment,” stated Dr. David Hoffert, superintendent of Warsaw Community School Corp.
Turnout in those precincts where voters only had the referendum to vote on, saw turnouts as high as 24.13 percent and as low as 13.58 percent.
While overall the referendum won, looking at individual township vote tabulations Clay, Lake nd Prairie townships were against the referendum, voting against it in the majority of precincts overwhelmingly. Also voting against the question was Plain Township Precincts 1 and 2 and one city township, Warsaw 3-3 also voted down the referendum, 66.67 percent to 33.33 percent.
Plain Township Precinct 6 voters were undecided.
The range against the question went from as high as 76.31 percent to as low as 51.61 percent.
Precincts in Warsaw and Wayne Township, as well as the remaining four precincts in Plain Township, carried the passage of the question.
