Voting is well underway at polls throughout Warsaw and the Warsaw Community School Corp. Polls will close at 6 p.m.

Voters residing within the city of Warsaw are electing members to the city council and clerk-treasurer, as well as voting on the referendum for Warsaw Community School Corp. Those residing outside the city limits, but within the school corporation boundaries will vote on the referendum only.

A visit to Warsaw Second Ward 2nd Precinct late this morning heard poll workers reporting a fair turn-out, with more individuals voting than they expected. At that time there had been 40 individuals cast their ballots.

This election isn’t without issues. Individuals were reporting receiving the wrong ballots or information missing when taking advantage of early voting. Some reported not having the referendum on the ballot, or residing in the city and not being given a ballot with city races. Another report included individuals receiving ballots with the wrong city council representative.

Ann Torpy, Kosciusko Clerk of the Circuit Court, who oversees the election, stated there were some issues, “If they made us aware of the issue, they were issued the correct ballot.” she stated. However, if voters did not make officials aware of a problem, nothing can be done.

Another issue that may have caused some problems is the fact the city under went redistricting in 2013. In some cases a city council member representative may have changed. Notifications were mailed providing residents with the updated information on their district and wards. This redistricting is effective for 10 years.

Torpy also noted that all poll workers received training in relation to this year’s election.
