North Webster Repeals Ordinance
Practicing the philosophy of less government, North Webster Town Council repealed an ordinance at its Tuesday evening meeting at the North Webster Community Center.
“It is really more trouble than it’s worth,” explained Police Chief Greg Church.
The ordinance required officers to charge $3 for title or vehicle identification number checks. After Church and North Webster Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce perused the books, it was determined that the extra paperwork wasn’t worth the revenue. The council unanimously repealed the ordinance.
The town’s cable provider, Mediacom, recently notified the council that changes were being made in the local television lineup. Ester Viles, senior manager of government relations wrote:
“On or about May 1, DIY Network (296) and The Cooking Channel (297) will be added to Mediacom’s Kids & Variety Pak. On or about June 1, GolTV channel (175 and 677) will no longer be available in the Sports and Information Pak or the Canales Latinos Package.”
Severn Trent North Webster Utilities Manager Mike Noe reported that a culvert rusted out and needs to be replaced. He has been out spotting asphalt sections of streets that will need to be taken up and redone.
Town Board President Jon Sroufe inquired if funds were available. Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce said, “Some money is available. Go ahead and get bids.”
Noe is completing photos for the town’s grant application for upgrades and repairs mandated by Indiana Department of Environmental Management for the waste treatment plant and sewer system. Noe remarked, “The first lift station that is on the list to replace when funds come through just fell off this week.”
Church noted that There were 225 calls of service by his department during March. Traffic-related calls led the list with 69, followed by citizen assists at 28 and agency assists at 13.
Police officers drove 3,541 miles and used 284.3 gallons of fuel in March while logging 535.75 hours.
The park board report was given by President Dave Waliczek and Secretary Tammy Waliczek.
“Council member Tim Hine is doing a great job getting the park ready for the season,” explained Dave Waliczek.
Discussions with the North Webster Ski Bees about a pier extension for their shows continued. Tammy Waliczek added, “Mike Jones said they are tabling the plans for now, as it would be very expensive and not solve the problem of silt build up in Webster Lake near North Webster Town Park.”
Sroufe suggested talking with Tom Plew, Dixie Sternwheeler Inc., about what the Dixie is doing about the problem.
Attending the meeting were those mentioned, as well as council member Lisa Strombeck and Town Attorney Jack Birch. The next meeting of the North Webster Town Council will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 19 in the North Webster Community Center party room.
