Pedestrian Hit This Morning On Center Street
Darrell W. Vetor, 52, West Center Street, Warsaw, sustained a fracture/dislocation to the knee/lower leg/foot and a laceration to his head, after being struck by a vehicle shortly after 6 a.m. this morning.
The accident occurred at 6:04 a.m. at 718 W. Center St., just east of Friend Street, Warsaw. The location was in front of Vetor’s home.
Vetor was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne by Multi-Township EMS.
Warsaw Police Officer Jordan Roberts reports the driver of the vehicle, Scott M. Daeger, 33, South Washington Street, Pierceton, who is a Pierceton Volunteer Firefighter, was eastbound on West Center Street, when Vetor stepped out from behind a vehicle parked on the south side of the roadway. Vetor began to walk onto the roadway, northbound.
Daeger applied the brakes and attempted to avoid hitting Vetor but was unable to do so. Daeger’s vehicle struck Vetor with the left front of the vehicle. After impact Victor pivoted off the front of the vehicle hitting the driver’s side mirror and fell to the ground. Daeger stopped his vehicle and went to Vetor and began administering first aid. Daeger is certified in first aid.
Vetor was identified by his family who were at the scene. The family also advised he lived at a residence on West Center Street and they pointed out a vehicle to police that belonged to Vetor, parked in front of the residence.
Daeger was given a portable breath test at the scene in which the results were .0 percent.
Damage to Daeger’s vehicle was estimated up to $2,500.
