Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw, has installed a beautiful new wood carving of the Last Supper on the front of the Altar.
The piece was commissioned from a company in North Dakota and is carved in solid oak. A number of Sacred Heart parishioners gave donations for the purchase so that no funds would be taken from the parish budget. The three dimensional carving depicts Jesus and the apostles at table during the institution of the Eucharist. The sculpture helps the faithful to fully focus on what truly happens on the altar during Holy Mass.
Parishioners Chuck Whitcraft and Steve Sudhoff volunteered to install the carving after the Good Friday services and then the church decorating committee decorated around it to frame it beautifully for the Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday. It was such a blessing for our new catechumens who were the first to see the carving when the lights came on during the Vigil Mass.
Lisa Bentele, a catechumen who was baptized at the Easter Vigil said “I was most moved by the carving especially with everything happening during this special time for me. It is so beautiful and full of life making my first Eucharist so vivid. I am so blessed to be a part of the Sacred Heart parish.”
Candidate Alan Alderfer said “We were so surprised to see the new carving. What a great treat for the Easter vigil. Since we sit in the first three rows my daughters were amazed at the intricacy of the art work. Amazing addition to the altar.”
This new addition to the altar at Sacred Heart, Warsaw, will be an inspiration to all the faithful for many generations to come.
