Marshall County Community Foundation awarded the Ancilla College Nursing department a $15,000 grant to use to purchase a Pyxis Medstation Training Unit.

The PMTU assists faculty in teaching technology-based medication dispensing practices to nursing students.

Ann Fitzgerald, director of nursing at Ancilla College said, “I want to thank the Marshall County Community Foundation for such a generous gift. This is a technology that nurses need in healthcare facilities to ensure patient safety in administering medicine.”

She continued, “The days are gone where nurses pass meds without technological assistance. This allows us to teach the skills before the students are in the workforce and it is one less thing they must learn on the job. I am not aware of any other program in our area that has this technology and the grant we received gets us a third of the way to having this equipment.”

Todd Zeltwanger, vice-president of development added, “We are so grateful for the grant award from the Marshall County Community Foundation. The addition of the PMTU to our Nursing Lab will greatly enhance the educational experience of our nursing students as they prepare to move out into the area healthcare workplace environment.”
