Walmart Associates Receiving Pay Increases Company-Wide
Walmart has announced a $1 billion investment in its workers, including pay raises starting this month for associates. This is the first company-wide increase in wages since the announcement in February that the retail giant would begin providing more opportunities for its workers.
With the raise, workers in Indiana will earn at least $1.75 an hour more than the federal and state minimum wage. As of April 4, all Walmart associates earn at least $9 per hour and by February 2016 all current associates will earn at least $10 per hour. The raises will effect 15,149 workers across the state.
Walmart is also raising the floor and ceiling of its in-store pay scale in most stores, providing raises to associates already earning the current maximum in their department.
“Our associates are the heart and soul of our stores around the state,” said Corey Langston, Walmart market manager. “We are dedicated to making each associate feel an increased sense of ownership and ultimately hope this will reflect in improved customer services in communities across the Hoosier state.”
Increased wages are just one part of Walmart’s commitment to providing associates with clearer career opportunities. Walmart is also providing existing and new employees with increased scheduling flexibility and control, as well as new training opportunities for continued growth and advancement beyond entry-level jobs.
The goal of Walmart’s opportunity initiative is to set the stage for future associates and showcase the store’s unique onboarding and training programs.
