Syracuse Man Reports False Shooting
Trent A. Faulkner, 28, Syracuse, has been arrested by Noble County authorities for false reporting after he reported an active shooter in Brimfield Thursday. That report brought a heavy police response.
A press release from the Noble County Sheriff’s Department reports at approximately 12:46 p.m. Noble County Communications received a 911 call from a man reporting an active shooter in the area of the 7100 block of North Lane Street, Brimfield. The caller, later identified as Faulkner, stated a firearm could be seen protruding from the window of a residence in that area and one person had already been shot and presumed dead.
The first police unit on the scene at 12:54 p.m., a Noble County Sheriff’s Deputy, observed no activity. A second Noble County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived and made contact with Faulkner who said he had also been held hostage inside the residence.
Police units were able to make contact with four occupants of the North Man Street residence, as well as two people inside a vehicle, in front of the residence. Those individuals were briefly detained while the residence was checked for the alleged shooting victim.
After checking the home and finding no victim, Faulkner was arrested.
The incident remains under investigation by Noble County Sheriff’s Detectives.
Assisting the Noble County Sheriff’s Department were the Albion, Avilla, Kendallville, Ligonier and Wolcottville police departments. The Indiana State Police, The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, Noble County Emergency Management and Noble County EMS also assisted.
