Experience the judicial process when Appeals on Wheels visits Manchester University’s North Manchester campus.
Appeals on Wheels, which features oral arguments of the Indiana State Court of Appeals, will bring a case titled Johnson v. State of Indiana to the campus. It will take place in the Jo Young Switzer Center, upper level, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14. It is free and open to the public.
During an oral argument, a bailiff calls the court into session, the judges enter, and lawyers for the parties present their arguments and answer the judges’ questions. This particular argument will address concerns of whether or not a warrantless search violated the United States and Indiana constitutions.
The panel judges will include Judge Paul D. Mathias of Allen County, Judge Michael P. Barnes of St. Joseph County, and Judge Terry A. Crone of St. Joseph County.
Through this program, participants will see how attorneys and judges argue about the law. Not only will they get to see the practice of oral argument, but the judges will also answer questions and help explain the judicial process after the case has been heard.
