Harrison ‘Harry’ F. Bornmann III
Harrison “Harry” F. Bornmann III, 83, formerly of Warsaw, passed away peacefully at 12:49 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Lutheran Medical Center, Wheat Ridge, Colo., after battling the progression of Parkinson’s for the past several years.
A proud graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s in Agriculture, Harry then served in the Army Signal Corps., stationed in Germany. He was self-employed as a poultry farmer in the Palestine, area following his honorable discharge from the Army.
After relocating to Colorado, he eventually retired from the QA department at Coors Brewery and then from Home Depot. He and his wife Elaine enjoyed traveling in their motor home to visit family and friends. A hard worker, he loved his family, loved to fish, take photographs, and he could fix anything.
Harry was born on Aug. 26, 1931, in Lehighton, Pa., to Harrison F. Bornmann II and Edna Mae (Walck) Bornmann. After his mother’s passing, he was raised by his grandmother Maude Bornmann and then by his father and stepmother Anna Rex Bornmann. He was eventually joined in the Bedford, Pa., area by six siblings: Patricia, Richard, Julia, Rex, Nancy and Susan.
On Dec. 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Elaine Creighton in her parents’ home. She survives in Wheat Ridge, Colo. They enjoyed over 63 years together and raised three children: Gail (Ron) Buhr, Warsaw; David (Jenny) Bornmann, Valparaiso; and Lisabeth (Dave) Huyck, Arvada, Colo.
They were further blessed with eight grandchildren: Travis (Amanda) Shively, Etna Green; Trenton (Nicole) Shively, Warsaw; Ashley (Kyle) Zender, Coos Bay, Ore.; Leslie (Matthew) Willingham, Valparaiso; Lauren (Josh) Burgan, Greenwood; Leyalle (David) Harris, Draper, Utah; Erinn Donnelly, Arvada; Lindsey Bornmann, Valparaiso; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters: Patricia Bornmann, Orefield, Pa.; Nancy Piel, Wheat Ridge.
And his brother Richard Bornmann, Wheat Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Susan and Julia; and brother: Rex.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 3, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Matthew Willingham. A graveside service with military honors by the American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. #1126 both of Warsaw, and the Indiana ARNG Honor Guard will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
