Gertie Mae Mehl
Gertie Mae Mehl, 90, of Ligonier, stepped into the presence of her heavenly father on March 28, 2015.
She was born on July 16, 1924, the daughter of Alvin and Mattie (Hampton) Lawson in Artville, Ky. On Jan. 12, 1952, she married David H. Mehl. They shared over 63 years of marriage.
She is survived by five children: Jeannie Peterman, Ligonier; Ronnie (Patricia) Morris, Elizabethtown, Ky.; Kenny (Rhea) Morris, Syracuse; Phillip (Hazel) Morris, Allegan, Mich.; John (Sue) Copas, Ligonier; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son: David Douglas Mehl in1989; her parents; six brothers: Oscar, Jerry, Glen, Marple, Elwood ‘Woodie’ and Paul; four sisters: Jewel, Beulah, Irene and Esther.
Gertie worked right up to her retirement at the young age of eighty. She had worked as a waitress for over 40 years and spent ten years Tower Ribbon in Topeka. However, she most enjoyed the years she spent owning and operating a budget shop in Ligonier. Gertie was a dedicated member of Strong Tower Worship Center in Ligonier had a deep love for people. Above all she loved and cherished her savior and her beloved family. Gertie will always be loved, missed and remembered well.
A funeral service in Gertie’s honor will be held at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South in Ligonier at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1. Pastors Josh Vargas and Rev. Darold Beck will officiate. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell. Pallbearers are Joel Copas, Jacob Copas, Cameron Peterman, Jeff Morris, Travis Morris and Robbie Byrd. Honorary pallbearers are Jed Morris, Jason Morris, Tony Morris, Mike Lengacher, Andrew Eytcheson, Jaxon Copas and Morgan Eytcheson.
Family and friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Strong Tower Worship Center in Ligonier.
