WCHS Freshman Shadows Rep. Nisly Through Girl Scout Page Program
Warsaw Community High School freshman and Girl Scout Jemina Fugate traveled to Indianapolis on Tuesday, March 17, to take part in a day-long page program.
During the day, Jemina shadowed Indiana District 22 State Representative Curt Nisely and toured the state capitol in Indianapolis. Jemina was selected as the representative from local Girl Scout Troop 10068 to spend the day watching and learning about the inner workings of state government. She was able to meet other girls from around the state who were also selected.
She is in her fifth year as a Girl Scout, and in her third year with Troop 10068. She stated that she felt the experience was a positive one, and was intrigued by the technology used in the majority of the decision making that goes on in Indy, “I thought it would be a good experience to go and just see how things work. I found it interesting that each representative has a touch screen thing on which they say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on.”
Jemina explained that though watching the representatives vote was exciting, what she enjoyed the most was getting to take in the unique architecture of the Indiana state capitol, which she admitted was much different than what she had previously imagined. “It is beautiful. it has roman architecture and there is a lot of stain glass up on the ceiling, which makes it pretty cool,” she stated.
