Karen K. Neeley
Karen K. Neeley, 54, of Bremen passed away at 2:57 a.m Wednesday, March 18, at home after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Ashland, Ohio on Dec. 13, 1960. On June 19, 1982, she married Randy Neeley.
Karen is survived by her husband of 32 years: Randy Neeley, Bremen; two sons: Greg (Jessica) Neeley, Clarkesville, GA and Kyle Neeley of Atlanta, GA; future granddaughter: Joanna Karen Neeley, expected in June; her parents: Dan and Lois (Chambers) Humrichouser, Shiloh, OH; brother, Dave (Margaret) Humrichouser, Danville; sister: Carol (Russell) Kinnebrew, Medina, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Karen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Anderson College in Anderson, South Carolina with Summa Cum Laude Honors. After teaching for a year at Wren Elementary School in South Carolina, she continued her career with Bremen Public Schools for another 17 years. She enjoyed working with everyone she was on staff with in South Carolina and Indiana. Karen had a passion for teaching and mentoring students. Karen enjoyed being a wife and mother. She was very proud of her two sons and loved to see how they have impacted so many people throughout their careers. Through coaching college basketball, Greg has mentored many students and players over the years, and Kyle has brought the Love of God to hundreds of students during his time at Nappanee Missionary Church and Passion Conferences in Atlanta. Karen was also very happy to have a passionate and caring daughter-in-law, and for the love that Jessica has for Greg.
Karen’s love of God, and His faithfulness, gave her strength through her journey with cancer. She attended Nappanee Missionary Church. Karen liked to cook, garden, and spend time outdoors. She enjoyed working out with ladies in the community and making hats for chemotherapy patients at the Oncology Center with several retired teachers. Most importantly, she loved to watch her sons play basketball with their love and understanding of the game.
Visitation is from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 SR 331, Bremen. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 23, at Nappanee Missionary Church, 70417 South State Rd 19, Nappanee, with one hour of visitation prior to the service.
Pastor Dave Engbrecht will officiate with burial following at the Bremen Cemetery. A special thank you to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center of Mishawaka and Michiana Hematology-Oncology of Mishawaka and the community of Bremen for all of their care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Center for Hospice.
