Glen E. Reid
Glen E. Reid, 91, of Columbia City, died at 6:05 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor where he had been a resident since 2007.
He was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Larwill, a son of James W. and Carrie L. (Hosler) Reid. His formative years were spent in Larwill and he graduated from Larwill High School.
On March 10, 1943, he was inducted in the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged Feb. 6, 1946. On April 27, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty L. Leiter. They made their home in Whitley County moving to their home in Columbia City in 1967. Mrs. Reid died Feb. 14, 1999.
He retired Nov. 1, 1985, from Weatherhead with over 44 years of service. His memberships included Larwill United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #98, V.F.W. Post #5582 and Larwill Due Guard Lodge #278 Free & Accepted Masons.
Surviving relatives include three sons: Terry Reid, Columbia City; Tom (Marla) Reid, Yorktown; Tony (Renee) Reid, Paulding County, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Arlene Kissinger, North Manchester.
Two brothers, Howard and Robert, preceded him in death.
The funeral service beginning with a Masonic Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, at the funeral home. The burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery with military honors presented.
Preferred memorials are to Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
