Lloyd Robert McCoige
Lloyd Robert McCoige, 77, Lakeville, passed away at 10 p.m. Sunday, March 15 at Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 24, 1937 in Culver, to the late John E. and Edith F. (Wilhelm) McCoige. On Feb. 20, 1959 in Culver, he married Katherine Esta Sue Pounders who preceded him in death on April 25, 2000. He then married Rhoda Fern (Burkholder) on Jan. 26, 2002 in Bremen.
Lloyd is survived by his wife: Rhoda McCoige; daughter: Tamara L. (Michael) Miller, Columbus; two sons: Gerry W. (Julie) McCoige, Plymouth, and Gregory A. McCoige, South Bend; six grandchildren: Amanda McCoige; Michelle McCoige; Joshua Miller; Andrew Miller; Jordan Miller and Katherine Miller and six great grandchildren; sister: Helen D. Fishburn, Culver; mother-in-law: Eva Kemp Burkholder; brothers-in-law: Aaron (Loretta) Burkholder; Brian (Neva) Burkholder; Michael (Elaine) Burkholder all of Milford; sisters-in-law: Mary McCoige, Waukee, Iowa; Marlene (Ernest) Slabaugh, Milford; Sandra (Floyd) Mullet, Etna Green; Elaine (Garry) Miller, Leesburg; thirty-one nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: George McCoige; Charles (Marilyn) McCoige; brother-in-law: Francis Fishburn; father-in-law: Walter Edwin Burkholder, Jr.
Lloyd graduated from Culver High School in 1955 and served in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the Elite 188th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 11th Airborne Division. He spent most of his enlistment in Europe from 1955-1958. He moved to Lakeville in 1965. He worked for R.W. M. Construction in Plymouth, AM General and T.J. Snuggles in Bremen. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and time spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion in Lakeville and enjoyed attending the Co E 188 PIR 11th Airborne Reunions in Clarksville, Tenn. each year.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, at the Nappanee Church of the Brethren, 301 Mack Drive, Nappanee. Graveside services and burial will follow at I.O.O. F. Maxinkuckee, Poplar Grove Cemetery, Culver. Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St. Lakeville, and one hour prior to the services Friday at church.
