Wawasee High School To Present ‘Cinderella’
Wawasee High School students, in addition to elementary and middle school students, will be presenting “Cinderella” March 20-22.
“We are producing the ‘Enchanted’ version of the musical. It is still Rodgers and Hammerstein, but has a few updated songs, adds the mice, etc.,” Cyndi Thornburg, director, said. “It is a more contemporary version — without losing the classic songs like ‘In My Own Little Corner’ and ‘Ten Minutes Ago.’”
Approximately 60 students will be on stage for the production, including eight elementary and middle school students who play the mice. Auditions took place in January with students asked to sing a song from the show and read from the script. After the callbacks and the cast was announced, rehearsals began, in addition to work on the set.
“The story of Cinderella is probably familiar to everyone, but it is amazing to see young people bring the story, songs and dances to our stage,” Thornburg said.
The cast includes seniors Carly Erst as the stepmother; Allyson Weaver as the Fairy Godmother; Sophia Nyce as the queen; and Chris Oesch as the king. Prince Christopher and Cinderella are played by sophomores Rhett Coblentz and Alexandra Fiscus. Also presented by sophomores are the stepsisters, Laura Stump and Kara Schrock.
Thornburg added, “Many of our upperclassman are appearing as villagers, horses, ball attendees, etc., so all grades are represented.”
Of the production, Thornburg said, “The kids have worked very hard to build a castle, costume a fancy ball and learn senior Katie Acton’s choreography. There is something for everyone in this show, and we are proud to bring it to the Wawasee stage.”
The show will run at 7 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets can be pre ordered by calling the school office, (574) 457-3147, extension 2200. Seating is reserved, so call ahead.
