Funding Approved For Summer Reading Program
Tuesday night’s Etna Green Town Council meeting saw the council members vote unanimously in approval of giving $250 to the Bourbon Public Library to help fund the summer reading program. Council Vice President Keith Claassen noted, “They have a lot of good programs and this is a very good one.”
The council members also reviewed a quote that they had received for the repair of the threshold of one of the doors at the fire station. The threshold has reportedly been leaking and it was decided that the repairs should occur as the winter snow begins to melt away. The quote was for $1,025, and it was approved upon unanimously to use funds from the town’s general building fund to pay for the repair. Council Member Todd Slabaugh remarked, “I need to fix the drywall as well.”
The council voted unanimously to uphold its public fire protection rate of $9.28 monthly. This amount is paid per household in the community and goes toward the costs necessary to maintain the Etna Green Fire Department.
As the meeting was winding down, Claassen referenced the Girl Scout project presented by Morgan Ousley during February’s meeting (see related). Ousley is planning to build a bench in the community in the hopes of attaining her “Gold Award.”
Claassen stated that he thought the bench would be perfect if it was built out back of the Etna Green Fire Station. He noted that people often spend their breaks there socializing and the bench would give them a nice place to sit. The other council members nodded and expressed that they thought it was a good idea, before Council President Andy Cook stated, “We have a year to think about it, no need to make a decision now.”
