Elma E. Konya
Elma Ellen Konya, 93, of Bremen, died at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 8, at Signature Health Care of Bremen.
Elma was born on July 31, 1921 in Bremen, the daughter of the late Lemuel and Bertha Crothers. On January 18, 1947, she married John Konya.
Elma is survived by a daughter: Sue (Gary) Struble, Lakeville; two grandsons: Michael Lowery, Walkerton and Kameron Struble, Westfield; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters: Blanche Crothers and Rose Bowen.
Elma was the Marshall County North Trustee for nearly four decades. She began her career of public service in 1962 as Deputy Assessor for North Township under the tutelage of Roberta Harbaugh. She first ran as the Democratic candidate for North Township Trustee in 1970. She cited construction of the new North Township Volunteer Fire Department building with a community room in 1993 as one of her proudest accomplishments. She also used her experience as a farm wife and knowledge of farm practices to assist large and small farm families.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 13, in the funeral home with burial to follow in Bremen Cemetery.
