UPDATE: Infant Released To Foster Parent
An infant battered by his/her 18-year-old mother was released from Lutheran Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Fort Wayne, on Sunday and is now in the care of a licensed foster parent in another county.
The infant was transported to Lutheran Hospital by Multi-Township EMS on Friday afternoon, Feb. 27. The child was treated for injuries on or about the head. The infant’s age has not been released.
The child’s mother, Madison McKenzie Jones, 18, was taken into custody by Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies and transported to the county jail. She has been preliminarily charged with felony battery to a child under the age of 15. Additional charges will be sought against Jones.
Milford Police and Sheriff’s officers were called to the Ulrich Drive, Milford home at 2:17 p.m. Friday, regarding the injured infant. During the course of the investigation officers determined the child had suffered injuries indicative to blunt force trauma.
The Milford Police Department was assisted in the investigation by Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies, Sheriff’s Detectives, the Department of Child Services and the Indiana State Police.
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office advised the defendant’s charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
