David Sanborn, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Marquee Acts For 2015 Elkhart Jazz Festival
Celebrating jazz in its true form – as “Music in the Making” – the 28th annual Elkhart Jazz Festival presented by Forest River on June 19 through 21 will offer Grammy winner David Sanborn and Super Bowl XXXIII performer Big Bad Voodoo Daddy as its 2015 headliners.
Discounted early-bird passes will go on sale Friday, March 6, and be limited to just 200 in each category. Full event details are available at www.elkhartjazzfestival.com.
David Sanborn will be the featured performer at the Lerner Theatre on Saturday night. His smooth saxophone has sold millions of records and entertained crowds for 40 years. Three of his albums, Voyeur, Double Vision and Close Up, produced Grammy awards, and he has scored a number of major motion pictures. He’s also a frequent guest player with the CBS Orchestra on the “Late Show with David Letterman.”
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, presented by INOVA Federal Credit Union, will perform as Friday night’s headliner in The Lerner. Famed for bringing along the swing revival, the California-based group was started by Scotty Morris and Kurt Sodergren in the early 1990s. They have produced nine studio albums, provided the theme song for TV’s “3rd Rock from the Sun,” and now perform regularly on late-night shows and at Disney World.
“Music in the Making” also welcomes back a number of fan favorites from past Elkhart Jazz Festivals, including Bucky Pizzarelli, the Ken Peplowski Quartet, the Dave Bennett Quartet, Davina and the Vagabonds, the Tony Monaco/Fareed Haque Trio featuring David Hilliker, the Stephanie Trick Trio, and Tim Cunningham. New to the festival this year are the Mark Colby Quartet, Hot Club of Detroit and Tizer Quartet.
In addition to a performance by the Army Jazz Ambassadors on Sunday, the Lerner Theatre stage will feature an all-star jam session with some of the festival’s hottest players. More details will be coming on the list of talent for this off-the-cuff show.
As always, free entertainment will be showcased on Main Street at Civic Plaza. More than 100 sets will be played on the six festival stages throughout the three-day event.
Elkhart Jazz Festival early-bird discount passes start at $30 for individual sessions and $110 for the weekend. Premium jazz ($150) and premium patron ($250) passes – $30 off the regular price – entitle the holder to a seat for the headlining shows at The Lerner, and an all-inclusive Top Brass admission is $400. Reduced prices will be available to students throughout the festival.
Along with Forest River, additional sponsors of this summer’s event are INOVA Federal Credit Union, the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downtown Elkhart Inc., and the city of Elkhart.
