Former Swim Coach Pleads Not Guilty To Child Seduction
Matthew Carrington, 36, former assistant swim coach at North Central High School in Indianapolis, has pleaded not guilty to child seduction charges stemming from an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student.
The student, a member of the swim team, has accused Carrington of sending explicit text messages to her and fondling her on school grounds. During a brief court appearance today, the charges were read and the not guilty plea was entered. Carrington had no further comment.
Prosecuting attorney Kristina Korobov said the parents of the 16 year old “did the right thing” in coming forward with the allegations. Her concern is that cases such as this are becoming more common because of the digital evidence that is left behind.
“This certainly is a case that should serve as a reminder to parents that these digital devices should be checked and they have every right and responsibility to look into what these kids are doing electronically,” stated Korobov.
Korobov requested to the judge that Carrington not be allowed unsupervised contact with minors until the case goes to trial in April. He faces up to two and a half years in prison if convicted.
