Neighbor Remarks On Syracuse Shooting
John and Lacey Woodiel fell asleep a little after midnight on Wednesday night. When they woke around 6 a.m. Thursday morning, they didn’t bother to look out their windows. It was a neighbor’s Facebook post that had them questioning what on earth had happened on Main Street, Syracuse.
The Woodiel’s have three children, Josie, Garrett and Maddy, all attending a different school in the Wawasee Community. When they finally looked through the windows Thursday morning, they saw police cars and media swarming their usually quiet street.
At least two gunshots had rung through the night air while the Woodiel family slept, never disturbing the sleeping children or the family dog, Oscar.
Brandon Woody has been arrested as a suspect in the shooting that led to the death of Joshua Randall Knisley, and the serious condition of Tara Thornburg, Knisley’s girlfriend.
The couple was well-known in the small town, both holding local jobs for several years and graduating from Wawasee High School.
But, it wasn’t always a peaceful relationship. There are several reports of domestic calls to the address on Main Street, where Thornburg lived with her grandmother, Lynda Thornburg.
Lacey said keeping the kids home today crossed her mind, briefly. “I know [the school] it is locked down every day.” As for their own home, the Woodiel’s said it has just reminded them to keep things safe around the home.
“I’m making sure doors are locked,” said Lacey. ‘We’re following along, and reading everything we can get our hands on. It hit too close to home not to. Hopefully [Thornburg] pulls through, and they can figure out exactly what happened.”
