Winona Lake Making Plans For Dane Miller Memorial
“He really made Winona Lake what it is today, and we really want to keep that legacy going,” said Winona Lake Town Coordinator Craig Allebach of the late Dr. Dane Miller.
At the Winona Lake Town Council on Tuesday, Feb. 18, the council and town officials briefly discussed ideas for a memorial in Miller’s honor.
Miller passed away on Feb. 10 at the age of 69. He was a co-founder of Biomet and served as the company’s CEO from 1977 to 2006. Miller was as well known for his business savvy as he was his philanthropy.
Miller’s civic efforts have helped Winona Lake and Warsaw flourish in recent years. Furthermore, Miller co-founded the Winona Restoration Company in 1996, which has invested more than $20 million into Winona Lake and helped the Village of Winona blossom into picturesque lakeside community.
“There’s been a few things thrown out there,” Allebach said, noting there was consideration given to naming the Limitless Park after him.
“We’ll seek your input, and do whats best and whats right,” said Allebach. “We’ll be bringing any information as it comes forward.”
Councilman Terry Howie recommended creating a committee, which seemed like it would likely be formed. All memorial ideas will be taken to the Miller family for final approval.
