Champion Spangle Leads Triton At NSC Meet
ELKHART – The Triton wrestling team left its mark on the final Northern State Conference Meet Saturday.
The Trojans, led by individual champion Nate Spangle, finished in fourth place in the final team standings in the final NSC meet.
The NSC will no longer exist after the 2014-15 school year.
Spangle earned first-place honors in the 182-pound class to lead his team in action at Jimtown High School.
The host Jimmies had three individual champions and reigned as team champions too with 231.5 points. Bremen was second with 227, followed by New Prairie (183.5), Triton (180.5), LaVille (154), Glenn (122), Culver (67.5) and Knox (62).
Triton also got runner-up efforts from a quartet of grapplers Saturday. Justin Hefner was second at heavyweight, while Malachi Green was second at 113. Adonis Salinas placed second at 120 and Gage Waddle was runner-up at 160.
Placing third for the Trojans were Grant Stichter at 152 and John Salinas at 195.
The trio of Bryce Swihart (106), Lee Mullet (126) and Quinn Hubert (132) all placed fourth for Triton.
Jeremy Jones earned a fifth-place finish at 220 and Vincent Helton was sixth at 138 for the Trojans.
Triton will compete in the Plymouth Sectional next Saturday.
