New Miss Kosciusko Crowned
It was a packed house at the 2015 Miss Kosciusko County Scholarship Program Saturday night at Wawasee Middle School. The evening feature 12 girls competing in three categories — Little Miss Kosciusko’s Princess, Miss Kosciusko’s Outstanding Teen and Miss Kosciusko County – by showcasing various talents, plus answering on-stage questions. All these, of course, led up to the next Miss Kosciusko County, Karlee Mawhorter, being crowned.
Mawhorter, daughter of Michael and Rita Mawhorter, is a junior at Ball State University, where she is majoring in speech language pathology. She is joined by the rest of the Miss Kosciusko County court: Carrie Shank, first runner-up, and Elizabeth Dowell, second runner-up.
Haley Begay received both the People’s Choice award and the title Miss Kosciusko’s Outstanding Teen. Begay is the daughter Darryl and Susan Begay. Currently, she attends Tri-West High School in Pittsboro. She is joined in the Miss Kosciusko’s Outstanding Teen court by first runner-up, Megan Butler.
In the princess category, Allison Velie, daughter of Nathan and Vanessa Velie, was named both the People’s Choice winner and Little Miss Kosciusko’s Princess. Velie attends Concord Intermediate School and enjoys playing outside, sports and decorating.
Judges for this year’s event included Rob Chalfant, Ellie Patton, David Shipley, Jerry White and Christine Sands in the Miss and Teen divisions. Alli Harris, Emily Harris and Emily Mishler were the judges for the Princess division. Emcee for the event was James Velez.
