Cold End To Goshen Natatorium
GOSHEN – It was a cold way for Goshen to close down its swimming pool Saturday afternoon. Decades of Goshen swim history was set in the old pool, but was reduced to a drafty, chilly scene Saturday as Wawasee won both the girls and boys meets against the hosts. The Lady Warriors claimed 10 victories to post a 115-71 final while the Wawasee boys split with Goshen at six wins apiece, but used its depth to claim a 104-81 victory.
Goshen, which is working to have its new swim facility at Goshen Middle School completed by the start of next season, could not keep up with Wawasee’s frontline swimmers in the girls races. Wawasee had Shelby Adams, Paige Miller and Bre Robinson all win two races and all three of its relays took first prize among the action.
Adams posted a 2:06.52 winner in the 200 freestyle and came back with a 1:12.60 win in the breaststroke. Miller was solid in her usual individual medley claim at 2:15.06 and 500 free at 5:13.18. Robinson wasn’t sharp, but didn’t need to be in a 59.97 win in the butterfly and 59.02 triumph in the backstroke.
The medley relay won at 1:55.15, the 200 free relay at 1:44.58 and the 400 free relay at 3:55.83. Diver Hannah Rhoades opened the day with a 170.60 win.
The boys had both Brady Robinson and Logan Brugh take home two wins each. Brugh was tops in the 200 free (1:53.68) and the 500 free (4:56.47) while Robinson claimed the IM (2:08.85) and the breaststroke (1:06.56).
Logan Haessig offered up a win in the fly at 1:01.62 and the 400 free relay team, made up of Robinson, Brugh, Haessig and Ethan Knepp, took honors at 3:46.22.
Wawasee’s girls finish the Northern Lakes Conference season 6-1 and move to 8-1 overall. Next up for the ladies is the NLC Championships, to be held at Northridge this week. Preliminaries are Thursday evening with the finals Saturday afternoon.
The Wawasee boys are 4-3 overall and in the NLC, and will have a couple weeks off before its NLC Championships begin Jan. 29 at Concord. The finals are set for Jan. 31, also at Concord.
