UPDATE: Car Vs Train In Leesburg
UPDATE: According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, one woman is seriously injured after colliding with a train.
Upon responding to a 911 call, responders found Lorraine J. Amerkanos, 58, Leesburg, trapped inside her vehicle. She was extricated from her vehicle and transported by Multi-Township EMS to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne in serious condition with multiple injuries.
A preliminary investigation by the Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team determined Amerkanos was eastbound on CR 600N approaching the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing. Witnesses stated that she failed to look for the oncoming train and pulled into its path.
KCSD and Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. emergency personnel are responded to CR 600N and N. Old Road 15 where an accident has reportedly occurred between a train and a vehicle.
At 4:55 p.m. Kosciusko County Dispatch reported that the driver was extricated from the vehicle. The subject is being transported to an area hospital for injuries.
