Yeo Paces Pilots To Another Victory
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA – Clay Yeo just continues his stellar season for the Bethel College men’s basketball team.
Sophomore Yeo helped the Pilots rally late Tuesday night to post an 80-71 win over Saint Thomas University in overtime.
Yeo, a former standout at Triton High School who played last season at Valparaiso University, helped the Pilots rally from a five-point deficit in the final 3:30 of regulation play.
Yeo, who scored a game-high 31 points, converted on a three-point play to pull his team within 65-63. Yeo then hit a bucket with just 50 seconds left in regulation to tie the contest at 65-65 to force overtime.
The Pilots took the lead for good with a 5-0 run in the overtime. Zach Miller connected on a 3-pointer and Yeo hit a pair of free throws in the key stretch.
Bethel, which improves to 14-1, led just 32-30 at halftime.
Yeo scored his 31 points on 11-20 shooting from the field, including 3-6 from distance. He also hit 6-8 free throws and had seven rebounds while playing 42 minutes.
Miller pumped in 23 points and hit 5-11 from deep for the Pilots. Matt Schauss had 15 points and nine rebounds for the winners.
Bethel shot 26-51 overall from the field in the win, including 9-20 on 3-pointers. The Pilots were also 19-26 from the free throw line.
Saint Thomas was just 31-79 from the field, including only 4-19 from deep. They were also just 5-13 from the line.
Chuckie Boston led Saint Thomas (5-6) with 19 points.
Bethel returns home to host Grace College in a Crossroads League game Saturday at 3 p.m. in Mishawaka. The men’s game will follow the women’s game, which starts at 1 p.m.
