Tigers Pummel Plymouth Swim
WARSAW – Plymouth proved no match for either the boys or girls swim teams from Warsaw Tuesday night. The Tiger boys swept all 12 events in a 153-27 boys romp while the Lady Tigers had 10 event wins in a 122-60 triumph.
Warsaw’s rolling of the boys meet had the team focused more on intra-squad competitions than what the outmanned Plymouth roster wasn’t able to present in the form of legitimate competition. Head coach Tony DeBrota was also able to move around a few swimmers into new events to work on different disciplines.
Taking honors in the boys races were Ethan Cook in the 200 free (1:51.49) and 500 free (5:15.00), Spencer Davidson in the 50 free (22.65) and 100 free (50.12), Zach Taylor in the backstroke (58.52) and individual medley (2:04.16), Jayden Parrett in the butterfly (54.02), Matt Wildman in the breaststroke (1:02.96) and Liam McCarrick in diving (202.35).
Warsaw’s top medley relay timed 1:46.84, the 200 free relay at 1:35.98 and 400 free relay at 3:33.98.
“Overall, we had a very strong meet,” DeBrota said. “Some guys dropped a lot of time in events that I wasn’t expecting. This was certainly one of the high points for us. I hope we can keep this mentality for the Zionsville Invite.”
The young girls program from Warsaw was pushed by Plymouth in several events, but still managed to sweep three events -the 200 free, medley relay and 400 free relay – along the way.
Lauren Kuhl was a double winner in the 200 free (2:19.56) and backstroke (1:14.44) as was Erin Sandberg in the butterfly (1:14.40) and 500 free (5:58.66). Savannah Taylor won the IM (2:32.94), Allison Thompson the 50 free (30.85), Jess Haines the 100 free (1:05.28) and Laurel Moeller the breaststroke (1:24.34).
Warsaw’s top medley relay clocked in at 2:14.53 and the 400 free relay at 4:43.24.
Plymouth’s 200 free relay team won at 2:09.20 and diver Brooke Wagner earned honors with a score of 151.75.
“Good time drop for our swimmers,” DeBrota said. “Still, we need to work on our turns and break outs. I hope that this confidence continues to the Zionsville meet. Hoping for another successful meet Thursday.”
Warsaw’s boys move to 5-1 overall while the girls even up at 3-3 overall. Next on the slate is a Thursday trip to Elkhart Memorial followed by Saturday’s Zionsville Invite to close out the 2014 calendar. Warsaw returns to the pool Jan. 7 hosting Tippecanoe Valley.
