The South Bend Symphony Orchestra highlights percussion in the second performance of its June H. Edwards Chamber Series, conducted by Maestro Tsung Yeh, at the Notre Dame DeBartolo Performing Arts Center at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11.
The concert will open with a delightful orchestral showpiece: Rossini’s overture to the opera “An Italian Girl in Algiers.”
Next, the program will feature a solo appearance by Kent Barnhart, SBSO Principal Percussionist for over 20 years. Barnhart will perform Milhaud’s “Concerto for Marimba and Vibraphone.”
This unique program closes with Haydn’s “Symphony No. 103.” Nicknamed “Drum Roll” for its unusual opening timpani roll, this symphony is full of energy and lively interaction between instruments.
The concert is generously sponsored by Ms. June H. Edwards, with guest artist underwriting provided by The Brennan Group, LLC.
Tickets are on sale at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, 100 Performing Arts Center, University of Notre Dame, at (574) 631-2800 from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday or one hour before the performance and online at www.performingarts.nd.edu.
