The Salvation Army Kicks Off Red Kettle Campaign
By LT ESTEBAN POMMIER, M.A.
Commanding Officer, The Salvation Army Warsaw Corps Community Center
The Salvation Army of Kosciusko County is kicking off its Kettle Campaign with an indoor rummage sale and open house to be held at the organization’s community center located at 501 E. Arthur St. Warsaw.
This event will be held on from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15.
On these days the community is invited to enjoy a delicious dinner from Warsaw’s very own Dig’s Diner. Dig will be cooking his famous chili which will be served with cornbread and a drink. The cost per bowl will be $5. Admission to the Open House and Rummage sale is free. Funds raised on these days will directly support the organization’s programs with Youth and Women in Kosciusko County.
“We are trying to get the word out about our Red Kettle campaign hoping our community will respond and get involved. Our rummage sale and food sale is just an excuse to get people to visit our center and learn more about other volunteer opportunities available,” said Commanding Officer Lt. Karen Pommier.
Community Ministries Director Ken Locke added, “Our local service groups have traditionally been very supportive of our campaign but we need more involvement. The needs in our community continue to grow and we want to be prepared to continue responding.”
Recently The Salvation Army held its annual Service Club bell ringing drawing at Cox Studio. Representatives for each of the local service clubs invite our generous community to be part of this combined effort.
“The process to register as a bell ringer could not be simpler.” said Pommier. “Ringing locations and open shifts can be found at www.registertoring.com, we will also be ready to assist any volunteers who want to sign up over the phone at (574) 267-5361.”
The Salvation Army’s kettle campaign was down last year due to record low temperatures but the organization remains hopeful for this year expecting to receive $75,000 in kettle contributions alone.
