Wawasee High School To Present ‘Get Smart’
Students at Wawasee High School will be performing “Get Smart,” a play paying homage to the American comedy TV series of the same name. The original TV series ran from Sept. 18, 1965, to May 15, 1970, and satirized the secret agent genre with success.
The play version of “Get Smart” will follow Agent 86 aka Maxwell Smart, played by Colfax Cannaday, and the other agents of CONTROL as they try to protect the Inthermo, a new weapon with the capability to incinerate huge metal buildings and landmarks.
At the same time, they are trying to solve a case involving a strange string of kidnappings and protect a visiting Norwegian princess … and determine if those three things are somehow connected. As per usual, Max manages to complicate matters significantly!
CONTROL may not be able to save one of its most treasured landmarks from the evil head of KAOS, Mr. Big (played by Kevin Schlipf), if Max and Agent 99 can’t come up with a plan — and soon!
Corryn Short, who is directing the fall play, stated “Get Smart” will offer plenty of goofy fun for audience members.
Approximately 35 students helped make the show a reality — both on and off the stage — this year. Short noted between all the students all four classes were represented well. She added, “We had a nice group of freshmen try out this year.”
Casting for the show occurred at the beginning of September. “The kids have been in rehearsal since then,” Short said.
The public can watch the students’ efforts come to fruition at 7 p.m. both Nov. 14 and 15. General admission is $6. Tickets can be purchased at the door or through reservations.
