Commission Supports Chore-Time Phase In
Milford Redevelopment Commission met Monday morning and passed a motion to support granting a tax phase in request by Chore-Time Group of $7.1 million.
The phase in request comes as part of the Chore-Time Group’s planned expansion of its Milford facility, and Jeff Miller, Chore-Time’s operations manager, was in attendance to present the proposal, in response to an increased domestic and global demand so great the company has had to turn away business. According to Miller, the proposed 45,000 square-feet addition will increase Chore-Time’s production as well as its ability to store products.
In addition to increasing plant efficiency, the facility’s jobs related forecast includes the hiring of up to 80 new workers, each earning from $18.50 to $19.50 per hour. There were 30 new hires made already in the last several months, Miller said. Commission member Doug Ruch added the construction process would also be a “plus” financially.
Commission President Dan Brown said, “I think this is a positive improvement for the town of Milford,”
The commission also passed a motion to pay $37,000 for a new generator in the water well field, citing the need for constant water pressure to support local businesses and recent instances of more and longer power outages.
Finally, George Robertson, president of the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation, informed the commission of a new website, comebackkosciusko.com, that will be operational in the next five to six weeks.
Its goal will be to help meet the growing demand for jobs in the county, which currently has a 4.2 percent unemployment rate. Robertson stressed the importance of “bringing younger people home,” and the positive economic impact it would have on the county.
The meeting adjourned with the commission agreeing to meet again Nov. 10.
