UPDATE: SR 25 Reopens after Semitrailer Accident
UPDATE: At approximately 12 p.m. today, SR 25 has reopened after a semitrailer hauling 150 swine wrecked, closing the road near 550 West.
INITIAL REPORT: At 3:17 a.m. today an accident occurred at SR 25 near 550 West that resulted in closing of the highway to all traffic. The highway remains closed at this time.
Officers dispatched to the scene discovered a single semitrailer on its side. The driver, who has been identified as Wayne E. Schildhaver, 71, of Nebraska, was found to be entrapped and was extricated by Burket Fire Department. The driver was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for complaints of pain to his side.
The driver told police he was traveling westbound in route to Tippecanoe when he approached a disabled vehicle in the roadway. The driver attempted to stop, however, his right front tire went off the roadway, causing him to loose control and leave the roadway completely. The trailer was loaded with 150 swine in route to a packing plant. At this time authorities are awaiting another semitrailer to remove the swine from the scene.
