L. DeWayne Gable
L. DeWayne Gable, 80, of South Whitley, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born July 25, 1934 in Whitley County, a son of the late Delmar and Ethel (Miller) Gable. His formative years were spent in the South Whitley area. He graduated from South Whitley High School.
On March 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Shirley O. McGrath. They made their home at Gable Acres in rural South Whitley.
In 1957, he was drafted into the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to his farm in rural South Whitley.
Steadfast in his farming, he also worked at the former Gripco, South Whitley as a maintenance mechanic retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of South Whitley. He enjoyed all things farming and attended area farm auctions and area 4-H fairs. He loved visiting with people. He enjoyed riding around his farm on his many motorized toys.
He is survived by two daughters: Tammy Shoda, Columbia City and Terri Gable, Sarasota, Fla.; two sons: Jeff (Teresa) Gable, North Manchester and Tim (Tina) Gable, South Whitley; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister: Wanda (Al) Hubbard, Louisville, Ky. and his special friend: Judy Sims, Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother: Carroll Gable and a sister: Rebecca Gable.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial will be in the South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
