Warsaw Sports Wrap – Sept. 6
A long and tough week for the Warsaw boys tennis team concluded Saturday with a loss at Crown Point.
The host Bulldogs downed the Tigers by a 4-1 count.
Warsaw, which lost conference matches to Goshen and Plymouth earlier in the week, falls to 3-4 on the season.
The lone point for the Tigers came on the No. 2 doubles court Saturday. The tandem of Cole Baker and Justin Stout posted a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win.
The Tigers lost in straight sets at all three singles spots. The trio of Sam Rice, Nic Jansen and David Homme lost in singles play.
The Warsaw No. 1 doubles team of Caleb Ray and Christopher Herendeen lost in three sets.
Warsaw won the junior varsity action by an 8-2 final. Winning in singles play for the JV Tigers were Andrew Gauger, Colton Lind, Kyler Bartol, Quinten Wright and Nick Marsh. Also victorious were the doubles teams of Ryan Wettschurack and Hudson Snyder, Evan and Graham Ousley and Jacob Grimm and Diego Miguel.
Warsaw, 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference, will play at league foe Northridge on Tuesday evening.
Cross Country Team Takes Eighth Place
Owen Glogovsky led the Warsaw boys cross country team to an eighth place finish in the Marion Invitational.
Glogovsky placed 20th individually with a time of 16:16 in the mammoth meet held at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Daniel Messenger placed 30th in a time of 17:38 as the Tigers were eighth out of 26 teams. Nick Bergen finished in 36th place in 16:45, followed by Jonathan Beres in 63rd (17:03), Jacob DeBoest in 84th (17:24), Avery Torres in 87th (17:28) and TJ Day in 105th (17:41).
The Warsaw junior varsity contingent placed fifth out of 16 teams. Lucas Howett led the way by finishing in eighth place in a time of 17:28.
Jacob Adley was 20th overall for the JV Tigers in a time of 17:56. Eric Cusick was 38th in 18:18, followed by Nick Adams in 43rd (18:22), Nathan Gottschalk in 57th (18:37), Trent Thompson in 72nd (18:51) and Rozen Kunkle in 84th (18:59).
Warsaw opens Northern Lakes Conference action Tuesday versus host Northridge and NorthWood.
