SLFD To Unveil New Helipad
In an effort to better serve the community, Silver Lake Fire Department has constructed a new helipad to serve both Lutheran Air and Samaritan air ambulances in the event of local and area emergencies.
Often times firefighters are asked to find and establish “landing zones” for medical helicopters. With the new helipad, patients with medical emergencies in the Silver Lake area can be transported to the Silver Lake Fire Department eliminating the task of finding a safe landing zone.
From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, an open house is being held at the SLFD for the community to come see the new helipad and get more information about how and when it will be used. SLFD trucks will also be available for the public to explore and refreshments are to be served.
Weather permitting and based on availability, Lutheran Air is scheduled to arrive at 1 p.m. so the community can also see the medical helicopter up close and meet some of the personnel. Samaritan is slated to arrive at 2 p.m. for the same service.
