Ralph E. Lewis, 70, of Ligonier, Ind., passed away at 7:28 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville, Ind.

He was born March 2, 1944, to Marvin and Alta (Dobbs) Lewis in Monticello, Ky. On June 7, 1964, he married Nancy Poindexter. She survives.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1963. He had worked at Dana in Hagerstown and then Syracuse, Ind., retiring in 1997. He enjoyed farming and working on tractors. Ralph enjoyed his family and regarded himself as “the purdy one.”

Surviving are his wife: Nancy; four children: Randle (Lisa Michelle) Lewis, Modoc, Ind.; Robert (Christina) Lewis, Kendallville, Ind.; Rebecca Lewis, Ligonier, Ind.; Richard (Sarah) Lewis, Cromwell, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; four siblings: Roger (Janet) Lewis, Auburn, Ind.; Carl (Deb) Lewis, Farmland, Ind.; Cathy Stamback, Avilla, Ind.; and Vanessa (Terry) Cross, Losantville, Ind.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Elizabeth and Joyce Lewis; and two brothers: Gerald and Ronald Lewis.

A VA memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway S., Ligonier, with Pastor Joey Nelson officiating. 

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, at Culbertson Funeral Home, Hagerstown, Ind., with a service at 1 p.m. to follow. A private cremation committal will take place at Legacy Cremation and Remembrance Center in Ligonier, Ind.
