Listeria Contamination Leads To Fruit Recall
A California packing company has issued a nationwide voluntary recall of fruit lots that could be contaminated with listeria.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration released information today that Wawona Packing is recalling certain lots of white and yellow whole peaches, white and yellow nectarines, plums and pluots, which are a plum and apricot hybrid. The recalled fruits were packaged between June 1 and July 12.
Among the retailers that received the possibly contaminated fruit are Sam’s Club and Costco.
Listeria is an organism that’s particularly dangerous to young children and frail and elderly people. It can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weak immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Anyone who has the recalled fruits in their possession should not consume them and should discard them.
The FDA released the photos and product labels of the affected fruit lots being recalled.
The FDA says no illnesses have been linked to this recall to date.
Return affected fruit to Costco or Sam’s Club for refunds.
