Katie (Thomas) Bontrager, 93, of Ligonier, Ind., passed away at 7:09 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014, at home.

She was born on March 6, 1921, to Ben and Lovina (Mullet) Thomas in Dodge City, Kan. Katie married Andrew L. Bontrager who preceded her in death on April 23, 1982, after 38 years of holy matrimony.

She is survived by three daughters: Amanda (Perry Jay) Yoder, Topeka, Ind.; Esther (Jacob) Schrock Jr., LaGrange, Ind.; Wilma ( Manas) Lehman, Ligonier; seven sons: Perry (Alta Mast) Bontrager, Pardeeville, Wis.; Leo (Martha Hochstetler) Bontrager. Topeka; Andrew Bontrager Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.; Ira (Mary Knepp) Bontrager, Freeman (Norma Barkman) Bontrager, Ben (Vera Hershberger) Bontrager all of Topeka; Amos (Mary Jane Yoder) Bontrager, Ligonier; one brother: Ira Thomas, Goshen, Ind.; two sisters: Amanda Stutzman, Mississippi; Lovina Stutzman, Goshen; 45 grandchildren; 139 great-grandchildren; one step-great grandson; two great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bontrager was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Pete, Martin and Ben Thomas; one sister: Miriam; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, and all-day Tuesday, July 22, at the Katie Bontrager home, 5942 W. 1100 N., Ligonier. A funeral service will be held in Mrs. Bontrager’s honor at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Katie Bontrager Home, with Bishop David M. Miller and the Home Ministers officiating. Burial will be in Hawpatch Cemetery. Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier is assisting the family with arrangements.
