Day one saw six players tie for first with a five-under 67 at Otter Creek Golf Club’s par-72 course, led by Columbus’ own Tyler Duncan. Also tied for the lead with 67s were Andy Winings, Craig Bowden, Eric Hunter, Blake Russell and McCormick Clouser. Tyler Gray was one off the pace with a four-under 68.
There are several area golfers taking part in the Open, but none closer than 39th place after day one. Jon Schram of Winona Lake and Jon Enfield of Goshen are both among a group tied for 39th at one-over 73. Just one shot back at two-over is Schram’s former Warsaw and Ball State teammate Tyler Ostrom.
Zach Gurtner of Bremen, Brady Klotz of Nappanee and Griffyn Carpenter of Bourbon are all in a group at four-over while Cody Richardson of Lagrange, Dylan Gessinger of Nappanee and Stephen Conrad of Scottsdale, Ariz., by way of Syracuse, are all tied at five-over and 94th place.
Zach Hochstedler of New Paris (six-over), Keith Pasqualone of Elkhart (eight-over), Caleb Rovenstine of Warsaw (nine-over) and Brian Ulrich of Goshen (sixteen-over) round out the locals in the field.
