The NappTown Hunt Down has quickly become one of the highlights of Nappanee’s Fourth of July festivities.

Drawing large crowds for the past two years, the event is a zany photo scavenger hunt where teams search Stauffer Park and the surrounding neighborhoods to find random landmarks, obscure objects and helpful strangers to perform team challenges while taking snapshots of their findings to earn points.

The game is designed to be fun for both adults and kids, making it a popular event for families. The event is entertaining for spectators as well who may find themselves involved in the game by helping teams complete stunts and challenges. Winning teams are awarded cash prizes of over $250.

“Last year we had participants ages five to 75. We had one team made up of all seniors age 55 and up and a couple teams that were all kids 12 and under; teams of teens, co-workers, neighbors and many teams of families,” said Rocki Stillson who organizes the event for Nappanee’s Parks and Recreation. “Anyone can play. Most of the hunt challenges just take a little imagination, some team cooperation or a bit of luck, even if you don’t know Nappanee there are plenty of helpful bystanders in the park, a team from Carmel participated last year and did very well.”

Providing the cash prizes that make the scavenger hunt competitive as well as fun are the event sponsors; Barry’s Floor Center, Topping Dental Group, Heckaman Insurance Agency, Spacious Heart Yoga, Thirty-One Executive Director Rachelle Meister, Mary Kay consultant Brittney Dudeck, and Harmony Marketing Group.

Teams need to be registered and at the stage by the pool in Nappanee’s Stauffer Park by 3:45pm on July 4, 2014.  Each team should be made of two to seven players and must have one digital camera. Team transportation is by foot or bike, all tasks can be done on foot within Stauffer Park and surrounding neighborhoods.

Game begins at 4:00 p.m. and will end at 5:15 p.m. with judging and awards to follow.  There is a $5 entry fee per team. Stauffer Park also has food vendors, a parade, live music and fireworks on the July 4.
