John R. Hollowell
John R. Hollowell, 88, of Ligonier, Ind., passed away at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Avalon Village in Ligonier.
He was born on March 11, 1926, to Perry and Gertrude (Hughes) Hollowell in Terre Haute, Ind. In 1957, John married Julia A. Hiatt. She preceded him in death.
He attended Shepherdsville School and in 1943 he joined the Army. He was injured during World War II and received two Purple Hearts. Mr. Hollowell was the street commissioner for Ligonier and retired from the Town of Ligonier. He enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting.
He is survived by his children: Lloyd ‘Rusty’ (Cheryl Beardsley) Hollowell, Topeka; Vic Hiatt, Lana (Mike) Ostrander and Rick Hiatt, all of Ligonier; Anita (Johnny) Miller, Kentucky; Tommy Hollowell, Ligonier; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother: Perry Hollowell Jr. of Clinton, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son: John; three sisters; and one brother.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, at Yeager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, at Yeager Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, Ind.
