DePuy Settles ASR Implant Lawsuits
Just ahead of Sunday’s deadline, DePuy Orthopedics agreed to settle thousands of hip implant lawsuits. The decision will mean a pay-out of more than $2.5 million.
The DePuy-made ASR hip implants were recalled in 2010 after it was determined that nearly 13 percent of the recipients had to undergo revision surgery within just 5 years of receiving the implants. Attorneys with Bernstein Liebhard, a New York law firm offering free legal evaluations to patients, said nearly 100,000 patients received the implants by the time the recall was announced.
DePuy agreed to a settlement of a minimum of $250,000 per patient. The exact awards will be based on evaluations of each injury.
The class action lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
