Warsaw Altrusa Club Wins District Service Award
Altrusa International of Warsaw Inc. was awarded the Altrusa International District Six Mamie L. Bass Service Award at the District’s Annual Conference held in Springfield, Ill., May 2-4.
Club president Sue Creighton, immediate past president Susan Woodward and membership chair Martie Lennane accepted the award on behalf of the local club’s members.
The award was presented for the club’s outstanding efforts and achievements in service for their coordination of the 2013 Bingo for Beaman Home event held each October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Club members secured bingo and door prizes, arranged publicity, prepared the meal and coordinated volunteers from the Beaman Home Board and committees and local Kohl’s Cares community team members.
Over 40 local businesses and individuals contributed outstanding bingo and door prizes. There are also 50/50 and prize basket raffles. Last October’s event raised nearly $7,000 and all proceeds from the bingo event benefitted the programs and services of the Beaman Home. The 2014 event will be held Oct. 16 at Center Lake Pavilion in Warsaw.
The Beaman Home has served our community’s domestic violence victims and their dependent children since 1985. Altrusa International of Warsaw founded the Beaman Home and continues to support the organization financially and through volunteerism.
