Warriors Overcome Rain, Takes Two
SYRACUSE – Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the South Shore Golf Club front nine Thursday, but the varsity golf teams from Wawasee, Whitko and Manchester trudged on in competition. Wawasee posted its finest nine-hole score of the season, 159, to best Whitko’s 182 and Manchester’s 208 on a dreary and wind-stricken scene.
Tristen Atwood of Wawasee managed to shoot par, 36, to lead all golfers and Jeffrey Moore was right behind at 37. Cal Heinisch fired a 41 and Rasmus Rich chipped in a 45 for the Warrior varsity output.
Whitko’s Dan Zawlocki paced his club with a 42, followed by Cole Bechtold at 45, Will Peters at 47 and Matt Hathaway at 48.
Wawasee’s JV outshot Manchester 193-244, led by Kyle Weideman’s 43.
“It was a tough night to play, and we played pretty well,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone, whose club moves to 6-0 with the two wins. “This is what we need from Tristen and Jeffrey.”
Wawasee and Whitko will both participate in the Wawasee Golf Invitational this Saturday at South Shore. First tee is scheduled for 8 a.m.
